February 07, 2023

Male pattern hair loss is the most common form of hair loss in men, sometimes occurring as early as the late teens or early adulthood. By age 35, nearly two-thirds of men will have some form of hair loss. In a new study published in the journal Nutrients, Chinese researchers determined that participants with male pattern hair loss consumed significantly higher amounts of sugar-sweetened beverages compared to normal participants. Male pattern hair loss individuals consumed over 4200 milliliters of sugar-sweetened beverages, compared to about 2500 among normal participants. Sugar-sweetened beverages include soft drinks, fruit-flavored drinks, energy drinks, sweetened waters, and coffee or tea with added sugars. The CDC estimates that 63 percent of young Americans and 49 percent of adults drink sugar-sweetened beverages daily.
