Be There in Five
Once Upon A Timeline
In this episode, Kate explores the parent wars she sees taking place about a cute, fictional movie on Facebook timelines (paired with the glorification of much more problematic fairy tales) and uses it as an opportunity to snorkel through many nostalgic topics involving her preteen rebellion, from cursing during hand-clapping games to high key Pagan sleepover rituals to boy band obsessions, grinding culture, and more. Kate also provides her take on the movie Turning Red, reads comments from pearl clutchers and celebrators alike, and talks through the implications of people insisting everything in this world be created in a way that represents their hyper-specific (often religiously affiliated) value system. At one point, Rachel Hollis is brought up, she can’t help herself. Kate also reminisces about her own “red panda” moments in childhood, then talks through some Disney themes people romanticize that are actually quite problematic, meandering through Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, etc. Then, she does a brief snorkel on a much-requested topic: Disney adults. Like Turning Red, this episode will not align with nor reflect everyone’s specific needs, so please take it with a grain of entertainment-based salt coming from a non-Disney diehard. Enjoy!
