Be There in Five
Childless Millennial (Part I)
This week, Kate gets vulnerable and discusses what no one wants from a childless millennial: opinions about the prospect of parenting, pregnancy, and motherhood. Rather than provide anything conclusive, she opts for a stream-of-consciousness approach about being at an age where decisions need to be made, feeling ill-equipped to make those decisions, and the implications of social media #momlife on her perceptions of motherhood. She also explores the impossible paradox of being at your career's height amidst your fertility's alleged decline and has an honest discussion about her fears for herself and her own mental health. After discussing this briefly on Instagram, Kate received hundreds of DMs from women at all different phases of their lives who inspired her to do this episode. The point is not to provide an unwanted opinion, but to allow women at any stage of this incredibly important life transition to be allowed to have a voice. At the end, she reads through her DMs to share the meaningful input people wrote to her that helped her feel better by showing a more realistic depiction of parenting outside of the harrowing hashtags. She understands this topic is sensitive, deeply personal, and easily spoken about incorrectly. But more important than being right, she wants you all to feel alright, and figured the first step toward overcoming this anxiety is to talk about it. Enjoy!
