Beautifully Changed
Episode 182: Toxic Christianity Effects On Young Women
I wanted to have a conversation around the harms of toxic Christianity and the purity culture and the effects they have on young women.
My friend, Arielle, joins me today to talk about toxic Christianity and why we aren’t fans of it. Our conversation isn’t perfect, however, we wanted to start talking about how we are influenced and affected in negative ways by toxic Christianity. It’s important to start conversations, even if others think it could have been stated better. The point is, we are talking about it and opening up space for other women, any age, to start talking about it as well.
I encourage you to be aware of how you are judging others… I’m aware we are judging what we see as toxic Christianity. Progress, not perfection.
With that being said, the church is a place to go to feel supported, uplifted, loved, forgiven. Yet, so many people are being filled with shame and judgment, starting at such a young age and they carry those messages with them for a lifetime.
It deepens the message of “you are not good enough, you are innately bad” and we must pray for you, even though it is impossible for you to be pure at heart unless you’re a virgin on your wedding day.”
Like, what the what???
You are enough. Period.
Stop the shame by changing the dialogue in your head around your value and your choices. You are innately good.
