We Watched A Thing

119 - 1917

January 15, 2020

This week we’re being told by Mr Darcy to take Tomin Lannister on a longer walk than the Hobbits in Lord of the Rings, with longer shots than they used in Goodfellas to have a chat to Smaug, all while discussing Sam Mendes’ Golden Globe winning war drama ‘1917’. 1917 is a 2019 epic war film directed, co-written and produced by Sam Mendes. The film stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film is based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes.[6] It chronicles the story of two young British soldiers during World War I in the spring of 1917 who were given a mission to deliver a message. It warns of an ambush during a skirmish soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich.
