Blue Highway Ep 11: No Depression Music

September 11, 2016

Around 1991, stuff got weird. Nirvana replaced Michael Jackson on the charts, Bill Clinton played sax-a-ma-phone on that teevee show, and country music was dominated by guys in really big hats and gals with too much fringe doing too much line dancing. Then, a li'l band from the midwest called Uncle Tupelo came around and changed all that sheeeeet. They put out a record called No Depression and started a movement that wore the same name. In episode 11 of our testament to Americana music, Blue Highway, we spin all the slacker country jams of the early 90s. Put on your flannel to go with your thrift store cowboy hat and toss on those Chuck Taylors, it's time for music that's dusty without having to dress like locomotive engineers (we're looking at you Mumfords).
