I Scream Sunday #8: Voices of the Animals
This weekend is Imbolc. Even though winter is still in full voice, we celebrate the very first hints of spring — maybe crocuses are starting to poke their little heads up; maybe we’ll see animals preparing nests for new births. So we continue our theme of voices in the natural world this week with an episode focusing on the critters around us: horses, dogs, cats, elephants, sea horses, insects, and more. In the first hour we’ll listen to a collection of tracks from the RadioSpiral library:
- Ozone Player: “Dogs On a Beach” (Videozone)
- Ozone Player: “Lemons and Lizards” (Orange Apples)
- Lucette Bourdin: “Mystic Horse” (Horse Heaven)
- Ma Ja Le: “Alley Cat Sings Midnight Blues” (Dreams in the Orchards of Saturn)
- Forrest Fang: “Seahorses and Aeolians” (Forever Cascades)
- Franck Martin: “Firefly” (Suspended Times)
- Kit Watkins: “Elephants and Ants” (Holographic Tapestries II)
- Palancar: “Insect Melodrama” (Precis)
- Cloudwalk: “Creatures of the Air” (Forgotten World)
In the second hour, rather than a live set this week, you’ll hear highlights from Saving Cecil’s Pride, an album that we produced ten years ago after Cecil the Lion was shot by a trophy hunter in Africa. Proceeds from sales of this album are still directed to Big Life Foundation, a conservation group that works in Kenya and Tanzania to protect elephants, lions, rhinos, and other wildlife from poachers and trophy hunters.
- Cousin Silas: “Lost Latitudes”
- Pas de la Dame Sauvage: “At the Water’s Edge”
- VÆRNA: “Requiem for Cecil”
- Wings of an Angel: “Saving Mankind Begins with Respect to All Lifeforms”
- Chris Anderson: “Shavi e Shumba Ofora Pamberi (the spirit of the lion(s) marches forever forward)”
