MMP # 1004 – “Horses of Fire”

September 18, 2023

On today’s show, we’re pumped to share an interview conducted by Kathleen Palmer, our Director of Content as she chats with Ashley Cowles and Danielle Stinson, authors of the debut novel, Horses of Fire, a historically-rooted retelling of the Trojan War from the perspective of Troy’s women.

Ashlee Cowles and Danielle Stinson first met as military brats living on a U.S. army post in Wurzburg, Germany when they were 15 years old. They kept in touch and have remained best friends for nearly 25 years, supporting one another through deployments, the births of six children, and their writing careers as novelists. Their shared love of stories has been part of “the glue” that has held them together, and books have also helped them process their experiences. Now they co-write epic historical fiction together under the name A.D. Rhine, and their experiences growing up in the military community continue to shape their stories in profound ways.

Listeners, if you would like to learn more Ashlee and Danielle, you can find them on the web at https://www.adrhine.com/ or through social media at their handle @adrhine_author

Resource Recon

Since we just celebrated our 1000th episode and have had a load of change this year, I’d like to look into a recent blog “Passing the Torch”

What does passing the torch mean to us as military spouses? For guest author Heather Barnhill, it means reflecting on what she would have needed all those years ago”

Empowerment Patrol Report

This is Katie Henke, bringing you this week’s Empowerment Patrol Report. Today we are showcasing our Everyday Empowerment recipient, Paulette Fryar.

Nominated by Amanda Bicknese, who shares with us that Paulette deserves recognition as an “Everyday Empowerment” recipient due to her empowering personality and mindset. I haven’t met Paulette IRL (in real life), but I just know she is a ray of sunshine. She is vibrant, encouraging, and supportive of military spouses. Whenever asked to contribute or volunteer, Paulette does without hesitation. She has earned several titles, including AFI’s Military Spouse of the Year in 2020! Paulette is a small business owner of a jewelry line by Plunder. Her stuff is so cute and adds glam to any outfit! You can find her shop online at MyVintagPosh.com and on social media at The Vintage Posh Boutique on Facebook or Vintage.Posh on Instagram.

Paulette, thank you so much for being an absolute joy and inspiration to other military spouses.

On behalf of Mission: Milspouse, thank you so much to Paulette for doing your part to empower military families all across the globe.
