ACC Nation
Hokies Football, NCAA Questions And Some Hoops
Our confirmed special guest could not join us to talk about Virginia Tech sports but that didn't hold us back any. Jim, Will and our ACCNation Photographer, Dave Wolpert (who calls Roanoke home) have some thoughts on Hokies football. Plus, some comments on the NCAA and the job Mike Young is doing with the Virginia Tech basketball program. A little bit of a wing and a prayer at the last moment but lots of interesting points and definitely fun as Dave joins us for the first time on the podcast.
Some quick notes on the changing of the guard at North Carolina as Mike Fox departs as head coach of Tar Heels baseball. Find out more in the links below.
he continuing discussion is, are we going to have a season? While the guys were recording Twitter was hot with athletes who are becoming more vocal by the day that they want to play. Meanwhile, the P5 conferences look more and more like they won't. There's two down and only the Big 12, SEC and ACC remain standing. Before breaking down Hokies football in detail the subject of Raheem Blackshear receiving his NCAA waiver to play comes up. Needless to say there's little love lost when it comes to the organization.
Hokies Football
What's up with Justin Fuente? Will he stay, will he go? The answer may be in Will's analysis which makes it much harder for coaches to leave lucrative contracts in a COVID world.
The offensive line is 'road grader' good. How a plethora of returning starters will make all the difference in the world for the success of the offense.
There's lots of potential and a whole lot of returning starters lining up on the offensive side of the ball. The biggest question is at running back. Will it be a committee approach or will one player stand out?
Is it possible there may be a battle at quarterback or does Hendon Hooker have it locked up?
The receiving corps may have lost some players but those that step up have tons of potential.
Defense
The looming question on this side of the ball is who is Justin Hamilton as a coach and what does he bring to the program?
Caleb Farley may be gone but this side of Hokies football is stout. There's more than one player to contend with in the linebacking corps.
Virginia Tech's defense only has (aside from the loss of Farley) one projected starter that wasn't a starter last year. Breaking down the line, linebackers, corners and safeties.
Special Teams
Cool as a cucumber - this unit brings back experience and consistency. Sometimes that's all you need to win games in college football.
The guys look at the schedule and project where they see wins/losses.
Hokies Basketball
Mike Young is building a program. What does it look like in the coming season?
