Jessy Morgan’s Journey
Jessy Morgan’s Journey
From growing up in Baltimore to addressing coaching peers at a national convention, that’s a glimpse of Jessy Morgan’s Journey.
Morgan, the head coach of women’s lacrosse at George Mason University didn’t start out with an interest in coaching.
For that matter, lacrosse wasn’t the first or even second sport that crossed her mind growing up.
Just how did this intelligent, analytic and competitive young woman make her way from softball and basketball into lacrosse?
It all began with an opportunity. A chance encounter has taken Morgan, an All American player in the ACC to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship and beyond.
Morgan hasn’t shied away from opening doors. From what seemed like a casual remark on her part turned into a head coaching position at Howard University.
Morgan then returned to her alma mater, Virginia, to take on defense and recruiting responsibilities.
The next step, George Mason. Administration wanted the program to be in the national spotlight. Morgan has the credentials.
From there, the respect and success of being a coach has allowed Morgan to open doors for others.
Morgan is helping build the future of lacrosse. It includes summer camps that lead young people to new levels of success. Addressing the need for diversity in the sport and a topic Morgan is passionate about, revitalizing Baltimore.
Our Jim Quist caught up with Coach Morgan in the midst of her busy schedule and she shared a bit of her journey.
