North Carolina Heads To Hawaii’

July 20, 2016

The Tar Heels will skip their visit to a California school on the way out and take on Hawaii’ as a precursor to the tournament. Because of scheduling challenges bringing competitors to the islands the NCAA is not counting this game in the overall number allowed for the season.

This will be the seventh trip for North Carolina to the Invitational and sixth time for coach Roy Williams.
The tournament chair, Dave Odom was an assistant coach at Virginia when the top ranked Cavaliers fell to Chaminade in 1982 on a return trip from Japan. Odom went on to lead Wake Forest and was instrumental in recruiting Tim Duncan.

The tournament sponsor, Maui Jim, will be giving away a trip for two that includes round trip coach airfare, tournament tickets, hotel accommodations for six nights, two pairs of Maui Jim sunglass and more.
