A Starter Cookbook For Preparing Real, Uncomplicated Food

October 24, 2019

Do you love cooking or do you have zero kitchen experience? Did you have a starter cookbook as a young adult or did your parents and grandparents teach you to prepare meals?
Food and memories intimately linked
We all have food memories, some good, some bad, but food and memories are intimately linked. Food is so tightly woven in all of my life stories that it's hard to separate them. Visiting other countries, holidays, celebrations, and childhood memories are all embedded in my brain along with the tastes and smells of food.
Building memories
Preparing meals and gathering around the family table are two activities that I genuinely enjoy. When my children are in the kitchen with me, it doubles my joy. This time together in the kitchen is a beautiful way to bond plus prepare them for adulthood.
Spending time in the kitchen with a child of any age is an investment in their future.
When my children invite their friends over, we usually end up in the kitchen. Kids love to create and experiment, and that is what the kitchen is all about!

You don't have to be an expert cook to get started spending time with your kids in the kitchen. Even if you consider yourself the Take-Out Queen or don't yet know your way around the kitchen, we've got you covered. You can still make yummy food using the right cookbook.

The authors of The Anti-Cookbook are here to help with easy, budget-friendly food. Drawing on the recipes they made as college roommates, the book is filled with hilarious stories about learning to cook, as well as teaching their own children how to cook.

With the Anti Cookbook, each recipe is in an easy to follow format. This cookbook is more of a guide that shows how cooking doesn't have to be complicated.

The cookbook is perfect for young adults living on their own for the first time who may not know how to prepare budget-friendly meals at home.

Kids who want to prepare meals but are overwhelmed by regular step-by-step cookbooks will enjoy this friendly book full of stories the authors share about their lives.

To demonstrate how easy making meals can be, I had my eleven-year-old daughter use one of the "un-recipes" from the book. You can watch her making the bars in the video below. These are gluten-free and absolutely delicious.

Shelley and Rebecca can be found at their website Anti-Cookbook.com. They also have a Youtube channel: The Anti Cookbook where they demonstrate some of the recipes from the cookbook. You can also follow The Anti Cookbook on Instagram.

Make sure to listen to this episode of A Healthy Bite with authors Rebecca Bloom and Shelley Onderdonk. Share this with the young adults in your life who want to make tasty, nutritious food at home.
