We saw an 18,209 drop in new episodes from our July 2025 statistics to the August statistics you see below. We’re not alarmed; we’ve seen this most years. The Blubrry team had a hunch why this would be, but we also asked our good friend ChatGPT to do some research. It seems we’re spot on!
“One possible explanation for the drop of 18,209 podcast episodes between July and August could be seasonal patterns: many podcasters take breaks during late summer, either for vacations or to prepare for fall relaunches, leading to fewer episode releases. In addition, production schedules often slow in August because listeners’ habits shift, with travel and back-to-school activities disrupting regular listening and prompting creators to hold content for later months. Technical or reporting factors may also play a role—for example, some platforms might adjust how they count or categorize new episodes month to month. ”
All righty, podcasters. Does this ring true? What have you noticed and/or what are your reasons for fewer episodes in the late summer? Let us know in the comments!
