Fourteen years ago, a national Republican wave election swept the GOP into control of both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature and the governor’s house.  Since then, although Democrat Tony Evers defeated Republican Governor Scott Walker in 2018, the Assembly and Senate have remained in Republican hands, largely thanks to the GOP-approved legislative maps, considered by many experts the worst-gerrymandered districts in the nation.  In 2026, however, the second election under new, presumably fairer, maps, Democrats have good odds of retaking both legislative houses.  If they’re successful, though, will they mirror the Republican tactics?  Brittany Carloni is the state government and politics reporter for Wisconsin Watch, and she’s talked to legislative Democrats about their plans.
