Fromagination Owner Says Trump Tariffs Hit Local Dairy Industry Hard
Since 2007, Madison’s Fromagination cheese shop has highlighted Wisconsin’s artisan cheese industry, shipping Badger State specialties such as bandaged cheddar and sheep’s milk blue cheese around the world.
The Wisconsin cheese industry is an economic powerhouse, with 1200 licensed cheesemakers producing 3.4 billion pounds a year. Forty eight percent of the specialty cheeses produced in the United States come from Wisconsin, as well as twenty five percent of overall cheese production.
On March 5, Fromagination owner Ken Monteleone wrote an open letter to Donald Trump calling on the President to change his policies regarding Center for Disease Control staffing, immigration and to reverse the rescinding of US Department of Agriculture grants that support the dairy industry. Ken Monteleone visited WORT to tell Monday Buzz host Brian Standing why he wrote the letter and how Trump’s policies affect the State’s economy.
