State Senate Minority Leader Says Wisconsin Democrats Could Become Maj...
You might think that an election that left Democrats in the minority in both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature would have Dems gnashing their teeth in frustration. But years of toiling under what many observers have called the most gerrymandered legislative district maps in the nation, have given Democrats a more sanguine perspective.
After years spent working as superminorities in both houses, suddenly their margins are a lot smaller than before. In the state Senate, for example, Republicans previously held a more than two-to-one advantage, with twelve more seats than Democrats. The November election, reduced the Republican edge to just three seats. In the state Assembly, the Republican advantage dropped from twenty-nine to just ten seats.
Dianne Hesselbein, who represents the 27th Senate District, is the Wisconsin Senate Minority Leader. She spoke with Monday Eight o’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing about her new perspective atop a minority that is a lot less minor than it used to be.
