Mariachi San José Performs Tonight at Centro Hispano
Thursday 8 O’Clock Buzz welcomes Professor Juan Garcia Oyervides, the director of Chicana/o and Latinx Studies at UW-Oshkosh. Professor Oyervides is the organizer of a free event tonight at Centro Hispano featuring the music of Mariachi San José, an ensemble comprised of San José State students.
Buzz hosts Tony Castañeda and Eli Wilz spoke with Oyervides about Mariachi’s appeal as a festive, danceable style of music which features violin, guitar, trumpet, the guitarrôn, a large, deep-bodied six-string acoustic bass guitar, and the vihuela, a high-pitched, round-backed guitar with five strings.
Tonight’s performance starts at 6:00pm at Centro Hispano, located at 2403 Cypress Way in Madison.
