Reputedly, America’s first serial killer is Henry Howard Holmes, born as Herman Webster Mudgett in 1860, Holmes was intelligent, debonair, charming, funny, and a master of premeditated murder. He even built a “murder castle” at 63rd and Wallace in Englewood, Chicago, that contained gas vaults, multiple chambers with hidden chutes, and a basement filled with torture and surgical equipment.. OR! was it all just journalists with over active imagination .
