Performance Anxiety

Spencer Cullum (Miranda Lambert)

December 07, 2020

This episode took me by surprise, I have to admit. I’m joined by pedal steel guitarist Spencer Cullum. Not only is he an in demand session player in Nashville (via London), but he’s been playing with Miranda Lambert for the past four years. Not being a huge country music fan, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. But what I got was one of the nicest conversations I’ve had this year. Spencer learned the instrument with the legendary BJ Cole, played Stones-y rock with Deadstring Brothers, & pushes the boundaries of pedal steel with his band Steelism. But he has a new album out called Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection, which he likens to a cult, but with less death. It’s less country, more Meddle-era Pink Floyd. You should probably go buy it. Check him out on social media. Check us out @PerformanceAnx. Subscribe, rate, & review!
