The Untold Story of Jake Holmes & “Dazed and Confused” | Road Gang Radio with Scott Shea

September 12, 2025

On this edition of Road Gang Radio, hosts Jimmy Mac and Lindsay Lawler welcome music historian and author Scott G. Shea to dive into a pivotal moment in rock history. Around this date in 1967, Jimmy Page discovered Jake Holmes’ song “Dazed and Confused”—a track that would later become one of Led Zeppelin’s most iconic numbers.

Scott breaks down the little-known story of Holmes’ influence, his overlooked concept albums with Bob Gaudio (for Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons and Frank Sinatra), and his surprising later career writing some of the most recognizable jingles in history.

Scott Shea is also the author of the acclaimed book “All the Leaves Are Brown: How the Mamas & the Papas Came Together and Broke Apart.” His latest article for The Strange Brew explores Part 1 of Jake Holmes’ journey through the 1960s music scene.

Listen in as we uncover the connections between folk, rock, and pop history that shaped a generation.
