Episode 34

The Real Flower Pots, Nick Tann (solo), DOTHS, Tremaine.

I’m joined by Chris Smith this week and we start off with the Real Flower Pots, all the way from Kansas in the good old U S of America. We’ve played them before and it was a joy to share Fake as Straw from their album. If you’re hearing them for the first time then you’re in for a treat. You can read more about them here:
GoGoMag | Facebook | Instagram

If you want to hear when we played them before, search for them at the top of the website: nicktannsfreshmusicfix.com.

Next was a track I recorded back in the days when I was a solo singer-songwriter called Never Did You Wrong. Thanks to Toby Vane, we made a great album called 3AM that you can listen to on streaming sites as well as on my Bandcamp, where you can download it for free or even buy a CD of it. Try and stay calm…

We followed this up with DOTHS (Death Of The High Street if you prefer the long title) and their fab single Communication’s Failed.

Here’s their bio:

Death Of The High Street (DOTHS) are a genre-blending band fusing post-punk, indie, rock, and pop into a sound that’s familiar yet entirely their own. Influenced by acts like Bob Dylan, Sleaford Mods, and Viagra Boys, they avoid imitation with thoughtful, unpredictable music. Since their 2020 debut single EXIT, released by ‘90s music mogul Alan McGee on his It’s Creation Baby label, they’ve earned support and radio play from the likes of 6Music’s Steve Lamacq and BBC’s Mickey Bradley. Their tracks Synergy and Chancer extended their reach to the U.S., with KEXP naming them “Track of the Day”. With frequent radio play, including on Frank Skinner’s Absolute Radio show, their audience continues to grow. Live, DOTHS deliver intense, polished sets across the UK — from Camden’s Dublin Castle to a packed YNOT Festival tent. Now, after years of evolution, their debut album Bragging About Breaking drops in 2025, capturing the essence of a band refusing to stand still.

Lyrics from Never Gonna Get It:

Oh there’s riots on the streets
Of cities and towns
Cross spectrum gatherings
Spanning generations of clowns!

Oh it’s rebels at the front
Passive positivity in the background!
No shared belief in rules
Or how things should go down!

People living pretty in their towers
Whilst people starve!
Freezers full of misery
And aching in the hearts!

You want some justice
Yeah you want a little substance!
But you’re never gonna get it!

Politicians sitting sound in parliament!
Ancient private members club
With a history of violent arrogance!

Soundbytes sound nice
When you’re lying through your teeth for a party!
Left or right no matter, lines are blurred and they’re parting!

Money is the language that talks
And it’s the only voice
The only voice that matters
And you don’t have a choice!

You want some justice
Yeah you want a little substance!
But you’re never gonna get it!

You want perspective
But you’re never gonna get it!
But you’re never gonna get it!

Their website is here: doths.co.uk. No excuse not to find out more about them. There will be a test!

Finally, a real treat to end with: we got our funk on with the amazing Tremaine and the extremely danceable Thankful.

Just turn up the volume and bliss out! You can learn more on her website: tremmusic.com

Hope you loved this weeks episode. I’m trying to build up numbers by making little teaser videos on Tiktok and Instagram so if you want to help out then give them a click and a follow. I’m sure good stuff will follow. Thanks Nick
