Reading Plan #144 | Deuteronomy 1

July 22, 2025

This video summarizes the book of Deuteronomy, explaining that it means “second law” and reminds the new generation of Israelites of the laws given by the Lord [00:09]. Moses addresses them before they enter the promised land, as he will not be entering due to his sin [00:42]. The video differentiates between the Exodus generation, who rebelled and wandered for 38 years [01:17], and the Conquest generation, who are tasked with conquering the land [01:40]. The book is structured into five speeches, with the first reviewing their wilderness journey [02:40]. The delay in entering the land was due to the previous generation’s rebellion and lack of trust [03:10]. Before entering, the Israelites conquered Bashan and Sihon east of the Jordan, land settled by the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh [04:43]. Moses is allowed to view the promised land from a mountain, even though he cannot enter [05:15].The Three-Year Reading PlanSouthern View Chapel is an independent Bible church in Springfield, IL, committed to handling the Scriptures accurately through the exegetical teaching of God’s Word.
