Destination: Vikings – Myths, Truth and Little Known Facts – Part 1
Vikings – myths, truth and little known facts. How much do you know about the Vikings and the time they lived, roam the seas and made their mark on world history?
Vikings, the warriors from the North. The bloodthirsty, fearless, and seafaring, relentless in their pursuits, men from the North.; those Norsemen we see in the movies and TV shows. Is it true? Were they the bad boys from the North., spreading havoc around Europe and traveling as far as Africa, Asia, and North America?
Let’s dig into history and find where the myth ends, and the truth begins.
Vikings have captured our immigration and interest through the years from TV and films created by Hollywood. The Northman, Vikings, and Valhalla draw us to see how they lived. They did live interesting live according to our TV. We want to learn more about them.
Who were the Vikings, and where did they come from? Their larger-than-life stories make them seem mysterious, increasing our desire to know more.
But with so much focus on creating an image of violence, murderers, uncivilized savages, and raiders, I needed to go to the source and learn more to fight these images and perceptions.
To know Vikings myths, truth and little known facts, I was recently invited to tour what I’ll call “Sweden’s Viking Trail.” A chance to walk on the grounds and areas key during the Viking age. The same grounds the Vikings walked.
Why Sweden? It is the location of several cities and areas where a large amount of information has been found to give us a picture of their lives and way of life.
Much information about the Viking Age has been uncovered through archeological digs and research. Let’s explore – The Myths, Truths, and Little Known Facts.
