The 2 Minute Word

The 2 Minute Word

Tested by a Ball of Rust

October 17, 2019

Galatians 6: 9

“So let us not become tired of doing good; for it if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest”.

After my divorce I was left with no car, no credit, little money and two kids that had so many commitments they needed their own schedule. I needed a car, so found one I could afford and purchased it for cash. I bought a 20-year-old Honda Civic.

I remember the day I bought it home crying because I was no long in the new model Cadillac, or even my Chevy convertible, no I was in a 20-year-old Honda rust ball. I tried to pretend that it really didn’t look bad and it did run great for the $600 bucks I paid for it, but it was just an old ball of rust.

I pulled up in the garage looking like the pizza delivery girl, and my son came running out smiling, and “Mom we got a car”.

Now my daughter “Queen of Sheba” was a bit different. She saw the car and burst into tears saying mom you can’t take me to school, in that. What are we gone do? She said what I had been thinking.

That night as I lay in my bed, I remembered something my granny had told me years ago. Pauline had told me that I needed to be happy and grateful for whatever the blessing. It was a test. Would I love and praise God from the driver’s seat of a giant ball of rust?

There are times in your life when you may be stripped, even for just a little while, from all your things…. The stuff you thought mattered, your sweet car, the big house, the fat bank account, leaving you with provision and love.

Will you still trust him?

How do you pass the test?

Simply continue to do good.

I told my son just what Pauline had told me, and the next morning he said. “mom we need to go to Walmart so we can get stuff to fix up our car so, God can know that we are grateful”.

So, we bought some imitation sheep skin seat covers, floor mats, and even a DVD player that fit perfectly on our dashboard. Then he and I shinned up the tires, waxed it and made sure it was always clean.

And you know what before long just like Pauline had told me, just like we read in the seed God replaced my Rust Ball with a sweet new convertible Firebird.

This is Tris (no h) telling you that all is well.
