The 2 Minute Word
Pay It Forward
“But when you give, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. So that your deeds of charity may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Matthew 6:3-4
Whenever I have extra money my daughter and I like to play our version of pay it forward. We would go to a restaurant and just before it was time to pay our bill, she and I would look at the other tables dinning and decide who’s bill we were going to snatch.
We snatch the bills and pay theirs along with our own. The trick was to pay the bill and leave without their knowledge. To accomplish this we whisper to their waitress and very quietly ask such and such tables bill. Oh the looks we get from the wait staff. We are always sure to tell the waitresses not to say who paid the bill.
Then my daughter and I would walk past their table on our way out the door and smile and say have a blessed day.
We would then quickly get in our car and try and peak to see the reaction when the waitress says your bill has been paid. Pie and I would just crack up laughing all the way out the parking lot, imagining their he conversation when they discovered someone else, a stranger had paid for their meal.
Kind of like Christ did for us, when He paid our bill. Everything we ever did, or didn’t do, was paid for on the cross. All we have to do was accept the gift. I challenge you this weekend, pay something forward. Do it in secret, so that the person does not know that it was you, who blessed them.
Remember love is a verb.
How can you bless someone without their knowledge?
