Shaking Off Old Beliefs

May 11, 2023

Episode 015 of the Davo Show

If you want to grow personally, you’ve got to work at it.

As I said earlier many times, it’s Drip by Drip that an ocean fills.

Belief also plays a huge part.

For me, it’s constantly accepting that I’m full of limiting beliefs that hold me back.

It’s a little hard to accept, but there are parts of us that want to keep playing small.

These parts mean well, but in the end they will kill our spirits if we let them.

For example, I had a very full day of errands and travel and sending a daughter off to senior prom.

I kept meaning to send this podcast but I kept putting it off.

It’s now 11:00pm and I want to go to sleep in the hotel room and call it a day.

But screw that.

I’m shipping this episode now because that old limiting belief that says “you can’t do what you said you would” is not winning tonight.

What have you been putting off?
  • How do you stay small?
  • What’s your most persistent limiting belief?
  • What are you doing to change that?

One more thing

If you want to really grow, don’t beat yourself up over these things.

Compassion and forgiveness are much more powerful than self criticism. Always.

So shake it off. Get it done. And become the person you want to be.

That’s what I’m doing. Imperfectly, every time.

[0:13] Hey folks, Dave Bourne here in lovely Winston-Salem, North Carolina for wake graduation weekend.

It’s been a big day. Also prom day, work in the yard day, get packed day, drive to Winston day, think about your podcast all day long, plan to do it and then don’t do it until, what it’s 11 15 p.m. tired as hell ready, to go to bed but instead what am I doing walking in the parking lot of the.

[0:52] Courtyard Marriott getting the podcast done because if we don’t change the way, we do things we’re going to keep doing things the way we always do them so make, it simpler, get it out there.

That’s what I’ve done with the podcast. I’ve made it simpler, I’ve made it so. All I got to do is post a few words of text up to the, server, up to my WordPress page, then record this thing, send it to Auphonic, the awesome audio processing engine and it puts it where it needs to be.

So I’m getting it done and limiting beliefs are not holding me back.

So if personal growth is something that you have accepted as something that you want to do, then you’ve got to recognize that you are full of limiting beliefs.

These, ideas that you tell yourself that you do things a certain way or you don’t do things a certain way or you know you just have these limitations and oh you.

[2:07] Know I always wait to the last minute well I did wait to the last minute today and that’s okay because I’m getting this thing done because I’m making a difference so I hope that you will ask yourself what are your limiting beliefs, what’s holding you back.

Raise your awareness about how you do things.

And, super, super importantly, don’t beat yourself up.

Just shake it off.

Do the thing that you need to do.

Make that forward momentum.

Be compassionate with yourself.

Forgive yourself.

Because beating yourself up doesn’t help a damn bet. In fact, it just keeps in that negative loop.

[2:56] So, I’m signing off, going to bed. I’m excited to get this done.

I’m going to hit publish, make sure everything worked, and I’m pretty sure it will, because I spent about, oh, I don’t know, 20 hours this week working on this thing.

So I’m pretty sure it will.

So, I hope you have a great day, and check out things at DavidBourne.com.

If you want to learn more about personal growth, I’m Coach David Bourne.

See you there. Thank you.
