How Universities Can Improve Debates About Israel
College is a place to engage with ideas. Right now a lot of students are deep in their feelings, furious at their classmates' views on Israel. Some universities are struggling to rein in protests and shouting matches. People are facing off about Israel, Palestinians and Hamas. Recently two professors at UC Berkeley issued a joint statement urging civility… even though they disagree strongly on this issue. I speak to one of those professors in this episode.
Then we focus on Congress: a bastion of civility and level-headedness. (Sarcasm.) The U.S. House remains without a Speaker after rejecting Cong. Jim Jordan (R-OH) three times. We have to demand better leadership from our lawmakers… but what would that look like? I’ll give you my take.
