Inner Child Work: Presence in the Present
Reverting to my wounded, inner child whenever I’m home for the holidays—and all the fabulousness and absolute shittiness that brings—is often a go-to for me. Old reactions get kicked up and resentments bubble up to the surface, time and time again. But I know it’s not helpful for me, or anyone else, for beating myself up for feeling or being this way. If I’m reacting from a place of my past wounds, it’s likely that my family is too. If that’s the case for you—as it almost always is for me—know that we have agency. We can choose to be the person we want to be in the present moment.
In this episode, I continue the conversation on inner child work and coming home for the holidays. I discuss how we can stay grounded and anchored in the present moment. I also share some of the ways I give myself space so I can be on the emotional high ground and choose to be the person I want to be.
“In the present time and present space, I can choose outside the past. I can choose how I show up. In the present I am whole, mature, responsible, successful, peaceful, loving, and loved.” - Karen Goldfinger Baker
