The Adele-Flavored Layercake of Emotion

October 28, 2021

Some songs really just come out of nowhere and melt you into a puddle of tears on the floor. Yes, I’m talking about Adele’s new song, “Go Easy on Me,” which caught me folding the laundry when it started playing and had me curled up—stunned on my couch—when it got to the chorus.

I’m not sure if everyone who listened to the song had the same responses—frozen in place, mouth open, and one hand on heart—but I have the assertion that for us, people of the Trauma Hiders Club, music is a powerful emotional catalyst.

And Adele’s newest album, 30, should probably come with a box of tissues.

In this episode, I discuss Adele’s new song, “Go Easy on Me,” the cathartic power of music and allowing ourselves to feel powerful emotions evoked by feelings.

“Once I emerged from the couch, I noticed warm love wash over me, and allowed myself to feel my feelings with dignity, safety, and belonging. For meand perhaps for youthat’s the foundation for everything.” - Karen Goldfinger Baker
