High School Reunion

August 10, 2023

This week I reflect on my high school reunion. From the predictable anxiety of wondering what to wear to the questions. Who I should speak with? Who I should avoid? Frankly, I experienced an entire gamut of clichéd feelings you might expect.

But I didn’t expect was how different it would be to all the others.

There was something missing from other school reunions I’d been to before. And it was so much better because of it.

Rather than the status games of virtue and dominance being played out all over the place, there seemed to be a profound sense of happiness and gratitude in a room. My old class mates had become people who’d lived, loved and lost and it was great to be with them.

“What really struck me is the generosity, the kindness and the softening that happens to people over time.”
