Weaving Myths with Morgan Smith
Morgan Smith is a writer, model, and producer who produced two original off-Broadway shows before graduating college, becoming the youngest playwright to have two off-Broadway pieces running in one season. Morgan studied at Bryn Mawr, Juilliard, Yale, MIT, and NYU. They are studying to become a human rights lawyer, doing pro-bono work for the queer community. Morgan is also the creator of Averno, which some have described as the Marvel universe of musicals. Morgan is a self-described myth weaver.
Today, Morgan joins me to share her unique experience as a young writer. They talk about the power of mythology and share the role books have played in their life and childhood, as well as their experience writing their first novel. They also talk about Averno and what it really is. They share lots of information about it, including who tends to gravitate toward it and where they sees it going in the future. Morgan explains why context consistency is important in storytelling and discusses the purpose of stories.
“Averno is something that lives in me all the time. It’s like a language.”

“[Fantasy] is a system--and a consistent system--in which you understand how things work.”
