Are Your Goals Empowering or Oppressive?

May 22, 2023

How do you know if your goals are good goals? Are your goals reasonable and achievable for you as an individual? Do they fit your lifestyle? When do you adjust?

Today, we dive deep into the influence of the content we consume, its potential impact on our personal goals, and the importance of self-interview and honesty in setting and achieving goals. We discuss the need for objectivity, self-accountability, setting goals in a non-emotional space, how vital it is to reevaluate and adjust goals when they aren't serving us and to acknowledge that there is a difference between attainable and maintainable goals. We hope this serves as a potent reminder that fitness is a lifelong journey, and that the obsession with instant results can lead to detrimental effects.

“Sometimes we don’t know if they’re unrealistic until we try. But we get to a point where we have to reassess and say maybe this was a little ambitious or ridiculous. Let’s adjust course and find something more reasonable. We have to be willing to have that honesty with ourselves.”

“It’s difficult as a coach when a client has multiple goals and they want to achieve multiple goals at once: a full pushup, a full pullup, deadlift X weight. Could I write a program for that? Sure. But I could write a better program if it’s more specific towards one goal.”
