Here's the Deal: Fitness, Nutrition, & Mindset for People Who Don't Want Life to Suck
Ditching Tiny Pink Dumbbells and Fueling a Strong Life with Average Joanne Fitness
Today we talk to Joanne Zabatta, Average Joanne Fitness! She always wanted muscle, but no matter what she did, it didn’t come. Then, she realized that she was just simply doing it wrong. We talk about how Joanne grew from a fad dieting cardio bunny to the fed, fueled, strong woman she is today. We talk about her extensive experience with the Tracy Anderson Method, and how meeting Anderson in real life was the tipping point that led Joanne to change everything… away from the Tiny Pink Dumbbells and toward more food and heavier weights.
We talk in depth about how empowering tracking nutrition can be, and the lightbulb moments that can happen when we start practicing awareness around what and how much we’re eating... using tracking as a tool instead of a punishment. We chat protein and the importance of eating big, filling meals, and the importance of taking some time to be prepared. We talk about treating ourselves as a science experiment and paying attention to how we FEEL.
We chat a lot about group fitness! Joanne has a long history with group fitness, and it’s something that she really loves and has fun with. But, group fitness often doesn’t support the goals of the participants (getting lean and toned). So, how can we incorporate the things we HAVE to do for our goals into the things we WANT to do?
We talk about how great it is to feel and be strong and fueled.
And so much more!
“I used to always think there was some power in some discipline and being able to go without eating, and I don’t look at it that way at all anymore. I’m always trying to stay fueled, because I know when I’m fueled, I make the best choices and I feel the best. People think dieting is about buckling down and being hungry – and there are times when you’re in a cut that you’re hungry, but – it’s more about being prepared so you don’t get hungry. Finding foods that keep you feeling good so you can make good choices, so you’re not at the whim of whatever’s available.”
- Joanne Zabatta
“There’s no award for being the person who eats the least and feels the crappiest.”
- Joanne Zabatta
