Rising from Super Sales Rep to Effective Leader with Kevin Haverty

March 08, 2023

Kevin Haverty is the Senior Advisor to the CEO of ServiceNow, a software development organization dedicated to making the world work better for everyone. Kevin has over 25 years of experience in sales leadership roles in the tech industry. He has been working with ServiceNow for over 11 years in different capacities, including Chief Revenue Officer and EVP of Worldwide Sales. Before joining ServiceNow, Kevin worked in senior leadership roles for several companies including EMC, Data Domain, and Thomson Financial. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard and is a veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College.

Kevin joins me today to discuss his career journey from working as a sales representative to serving as an advisor to the CEO. He describes the normal path to becoming a leader in enterprise tech sales and how the best sales representatives don’t necessarily make the best managers. He explains why having a positive attitude is essential to becoming a trusted advisor to the CEO and why focus and ruthless prioritization are critical when leading a team through difficult times. Kevin also offers advice on managing burnout and handling the pressures of leadership and underscores what it takes to become a productive leader.

“Once I learned how to delegate and let people do their jobs, I went from a super sales rep who ran around trying to do everything to becoming a leader who benefitted from the multiplier effect.” - Kevin Haverty
