Dealing with The Personal at Work

February 01, 2023

If you have a spouse, if you have children, if you have elderly parents, you’re going to deal with stress outside of work. If you have a body, you’re going to deal with stress outside of work. It’s inevitable—stress is simply part of the human experience. But if it’s a constant in our personal lives, how can we manage it so we can do our best at work? What do we do if that stress starts spilling into our jobs?

In this episode, I discuss dealing with stress from outside of work. I reveal why complaining about work and stress to your coach is natural and often beneficial. I explain what “allostatic load” means and describe the two ways of managing it. I also highlight the importance of self-care and underscore the value of meditation and journaling.

“If you’re human, you’re going to have problems. If you have a job, you’re going to have to do your best. So, do what you need to do and remember to ask for help.” - Mark Silverman
