The Rising Leader

Discovering the Power of Real Life Over Imagination with Michael Neill

March 19, 2025

In today's episode of The Rising Leader, we're diving into the complexities of dealing with uncertainty in our ever-evolving world. We explore how to transform stressful situations into opportunities for growth and being our best selves, no matter the challenges we face. I had the privilege of speaking with Michael Neill, a transformational teacher known for his work on breaking down cultural myths around stress and pressure in both business and life.

Michael Neill is an internationally renowned transformational teacher, author, broadcaster, and speaker with a unique ability to blend the sacred with the profane. As the CEO of the Genius Catalyst, Michael has influenced the growth of thousands through his consultancy and multimedia organization. He has authored several insightful books, including "The Inside-Out Revolution" and "Supercoach," which have significantly shaped and informed my own coaching approach.

"We're made for reality, like we really are. We do really well in real-time." ~Michael Neill

Today on The Rising Leader:

·     Stress and uncertainty are not new; they have been a consistent part of the last few years.

·     The real world is separate from the stories we imagine about it; imagination can cause unnecessary stress.

·     Recognize that unpleasant thoughts and feelings are signals, much like physical pain, prompting you to change your focus.

·     Losing the taste for negative emotions helps naturally shift towards more positive thoughts and actions.

·     Real change occurs not from effort but from losing interest in unhelpful habits and gaining interest in the present.

·     If stress and worry seem useful, it’s harder to change—seeing them as unhelpful opens up the possibility for change.

·     Even one moment of clarity or insight can transform habitual thinking, offering a shortcut to peace.

·     True goodness and effective action come from being in a good state of mind rather than obligation or guilt.
