A Pep Talk From the Messy Middle of My Metabolic Healing Journey

April 11, 2023
“Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.”

In this episode, I’m sharing a pep talk from the messy middle of my Metabolic Balance healing journey. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen my journey with food and healing my body in a way that has felt, not entirely impossible but close for the last several years. While I’ve seen tremendous healing and changes through this work, I’m now at a place where some things are getting worse before they can get better. It’s frustrating, to say the least, but I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to persist in the face of obstacles that make what I want seem impossible. So if you’re in your own messy middle where things seem to be getting more challenging than they are better, this is a love note for you.

What to listen for:

  • My struggles with healing my body, hormones, and metabolism

  • How loss and trauma wreaked havoc on my adrenals

  • Perpetual hypervigilance from trauma is taxing

  • How lack of sleep and proper nutrition breaks the body down

  • Dealing with the aftermath of crashed adrenals

“I gained a lot of weight from my adrenals crashing, from the stress from my whole system not working the way it’s designed to because I had put my body through so much. I had been through so much physically and emotionally, and I couldn’t lose the weight no matter what I tried.

  • My beautiful, challenging start to the Metabolic Balance program

  • Pushing my edges and doing things that are hard for me

  • PTSD changed the way my brain works and tracks information

  • Facing the trauma of feeling restrained and controlled

  • Moving through stoppers and building trust in self and others

“I had to move through a ton of subconscious stoppers to stay committed to this thing that I deeply want and desire, and I had to have a lot of faith in somebody I trust to lead me through it.”

  • Running into blocks because of past choices

  • Healing happens in layers and needs to be stacked

  • Accepting ourselves where we’re at and going for more

  • What worked before isn’t working anymore

  • Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better

“Sometimes there are journeys where it’s just this consistent uptrend, and that’s wonderful and beautiful. For me, healing from grief and trauma, that wasn’t the case. Things had to come more undone, and there were things that I had to actively, consciously choose to break further, to break all the way through, so that they could really, truly begin to mend the way that they were meant to.

  • I’m in the messy middle of this healing journey

  • Staying motivated and committed when things get hard

  • Not believing the stories that say it’s impossible

  • Getting creative and finding new avenues for support

  • What persistence really means
