The Magic Organ

Episode 110: Songs of Summer '25

August 30, 2025

It has been a garbage can summer for pop music and mainstream hip hop, and while those are the most money making sectors of the recorded music business, there is plenty of action from other parts of our culture that is worthy of Song of the Summer status. That is what The Magic Organ is all about, pushing up quality regardless of commercial domination, fuq the music business.

Song of the Summer can qualify as such for many different reasons, at least here at The Magic Organ it works that way. It could be catchy af like the profane opener from Laura Jane Grace. It could be a sound or a vibe or a sound that creates a vibe like in the second track from Karol G. It could be a ramped up energy like the tunes from Anamanaguchi and The Armed, two surprising rock/rawk picks for The Magic Organ Guy. Or a tune might line up with other things that have been going on this summer like YoungBoy Never Broke Again's tune, My Shit, and the tune I Steal What I Want. There can be any number of reasons.

The new Sabrina Carpenter record is a tragic biscuit, the Lorde record was pretty bad, the Charlie XCX record was not so great (the last one was majorly hyped so it's not surprising) so give the other side of town a shot.

Thanks for listening and hit me up with your six pack of bangers if you have the skills, pickin' ain't easy!
