#WhatsHappening: 5th Annual Lander Community Unity Pig Roast is this Saturday
(Lander, WY) – The 2025 Lander Pig Roast will take place this Saturday, July 19, in City Park. The unofficial kick-off to the Roast will start the night before in conjunction with the Wyoming Singer Songwriter Competition Lander Qualifying Round, where the slow-cooking process will begin and continue through the night (thanks to Paul Downey, Earl Osborne, and the Smoke Pit Crew).
The opening ceremonies for the Roast will start at 11 AM on Saturday, with an introduction from the Lander Pipe Band, an opening prayer, and a Quilts of Valor presentation. Pulled pork sandwiches will be given out starting at 12 PM, around the same time as the start of the day’s music offerings, which this year include:
- Nightfire
- Steve Gora
- Buffalo Bill Boycott and Dr. Jo
- Candice and the Mad Dogs
- Full Blown Mosey
Additionally, there will be kids’ games, a dunk tank, alcoholic drinks for purchase thanks to the VFW, pork items for sale, food truck offerings for folks who want a bite of something other than pork, a raffle for a custom-made Cornhole set from Scott Robeson, and you can’t forget the Cornhole tournament organized by Ed Newbold and the Fremont County Cornhole crew (registration for the Cornhole tournament starts at 10:30 AM, and bags fly at 11 AM).
As always, the theme of the annual Pig Roast is mental health and suicide awareness, and there will be a number of resource booths set up in the Park offering information and a listening ear throughout the day.
The Pig Roast began in 2021 as a way to bring the community together following the onset of COVID and uncertain times, and was a passion project of the late Lander Mayor Monte Richardson, who this year’s roast will be in remembrance of.
