We had a studio full of energy and positivity this week on Yellow Click Road we were joined by Todd, Alison and Phil from StartupCloud, Geelong’s coworking space and business incubator. StartupCloud is home to a community of startup business founders and professionals who find value in working in a shared environment.

If you’re a home based or location flexible knowledge worker or entrepreneur and have never considered working a shared working environment you should definitely check out StartupCloud. The space is bright and light with different zones – desks where you can get work done (screen and keyboard provided, just rock up with your laptop), standing desks, a large open space for informal meetings, private meeting rooms, and a board room with large display.

It’s not just the space though – the most important thing about co-working is the community. The guys and girls at StartupCloud support and connect each other, and the sum is definitely greater than the individual parts. Todd talked us through the serendipity that often happens in coworking communities – how networking can lead to seemingly chance opportunities and introductions and also details about the hackathon that he is planning.

Phil, a Design Anthropologist, told us a little about the research he’s completed into the emergence of co-working spaces and how the way that we work is changing.

Alison talked us through the role of Community Manager at StartupCloud – Alison facilitates the community and organises events such as the Monday morning wind-up breakfast and the Friday arvo wind-down drinks (otherwise known as James’ thing). Alison is also organising vibrant art installations in StartupCloud.
