Matthew 7:24-25
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
I have a friend that is struggling with the lot they have been dealt with in life. Some of the challenges are self inflicted, others are not of this persons making. This friend speaks of life acting upon them, with fillings of helplessness and even hopelessness. Truth be known, I have not meet anyone who has not been face with difficult and painful thing and not struggled to repress the twin feelings of helplessness and hopelessness.
Our Heavenly Father did not give us a promise of a life without storms. Rather, He gave us a promise that if we anchor our foundation upon that of the Gospel of Christ, our house would still stand, even in the mist of the most fierce storms.
Storms may come in the form of poor health, the loss of a job, the struggle that comes from a child wondering, the inability to have children, the struggle of addiction or the lack of faith. No matter the wind that which rails upon you, we have this understanding that struggles and trials are essential to our progression in this life and a vital experience for us in the life to come.
Joseph Smith, a man that was aware of suffering said this regarding our trials,
“You will have all kinds of trials to pass through. And it is quite as necessary for you to be tried as it was for Abraham and other men of God, and God will feel after you, and He will take hold of you and wrench your very heart strings, and if you cannot stand it you will not be fit for an inheritance in the Celestial Kingdom of Godâ€
The love of the Savior, the hope of the Atonement, and the promised inheritance of God's Kingdom should be the tools we use to set the twin feelings of helplessness and hopelessness behind us. These truths empower us against helplessness and give us sustaining hope from hopelessness. You can make it through anything, unlocking that divinity inside of you if you rely on the arm of the Master.
Dearest Children, God Is Near You
Dearest children, God is near you,
Watching o'er you day and night,
And delights to own and bless you,
If you strive to do what's right.
He will bless you, He will bless you,
If you put your trust in him.
