The Dow Jones industrial average ended off 119.09 points, or 0.67 percent, at 17,731.95. The S&P 500 was down 12 points, or 0.57 percent, to 2,102.15; the Nasdaq Composite lost 25.36 points, or 0.49 percent, to 5,146.41.

I want to correct an error made yesterday in calculation of the Visual Marketplace Index, we incorrectly calculated the closing share price of Netflix. As a consequence, the Index was incorrectly reported for July 22. The proper figure is 276.77, losing 1.34 points. We try not to make errors in the calculations, and we caught the error when rechecking the index and calculating tonight’s figures.

For today, the Visual Marketplace Index was down slightly more than 2%, losing 5 and 3/4rd points, to finish the day at 271.02.
