086 – Overcoming the “Nice Girl” Complex

December 06, 2015

This week on Vagina Chronicles Podcast, we're talking about raising girls to be "nice." What does that really mean? And how does that impact us as we become women?

Around the world, the roles of women are changing... more rapidly in some places over others but, still, changing! And with these changes come more choice and opportunity for girls and women. Awesome.

But we need to make sure we are enforcing, and sometimes heralding, those changes in our ways of being. Our ways of interacting. Our ways of raising girls. So that they know they are just as worthy and deserving of being who they are as their male counterparts are being raised to believe.

Being raised to be a "good girl" or a "nice girl" can create issues for women if it leads them to believe that their opinions matter less or that they should defer to everyone else around them in order to be perceived as "nice."

In this episode, we discuss how kindness and decency are just facets of women (and men...humans, really) and how we should encourage interity and powerful choice in our daughters. And in ourselves, if we need to release "nice girl" programming that is holding us back.
