The Unlevels

October 03, 2012

The Unlevels, Fresh rock and roll.

The Unlevels is a mix of Sonic Youth, Pixies with a spacey pop. "Our influence is the Ramones" they said laughing, but in reality the influences go from Led Zeppelin to Shostakovich.  Their bass lines are rocking and the guitar is full of white noise, complemented with steady drumming. A show not to be missed.

The Vancouver based trio formed in 2009 and entered the music scene in 2010. Their original songs have been described as “a little spacey, a little hendrixy… and hot”.  The band is a fun mix of blues, brit-pop, and indie rock.  Along with their clever mix of genres is the diversity in how each song is delivered, instrumentally and vocally. Colin adds the satisfying 3rd vocal harmony while drumming, Brian brings in blues based guitar riffs and shoe-gazing vocals, while Kristina brings in a heavy bass overtone and eclectic vocals. Common interests brought the band together and musical differences make The Unlevels interesting to listen to and watch on stage.  Band highlights include organizing and performing in a Japan Tsunami Benefit at the Yale, taking part in the Relay for Life 2012 Benefit, releasing their self-titled EP, and playing around Vancouver with the talented array of local musicians.  The band has received favourable reviews and has a loyal fan base, both throughout the lower mainland and online.
