The Unenthusiastic Critic

The Unenthusiastic Critic

THE BIG SLEEP (1946)

November 14, 2019

This week we have it all, starring in our own late, late show, just like Bogie and Bacall, as we sit down for Nakea's first viewing of The Big Sleep (1946).

First, we're talking about this most iconic of all Hollywood power couples, and discussing other great on-screen/off-screen couples in cinematic history.

Then, to celebrate #Noirvember, we're watching Bogie and Bacall in Howard Hawks' classic adaptation of Raymond Chandler's seminal hard-boiled detective novel, a story so confusing that even Chandler didn't know who committed one of the murders. So forget following the plot, but will the chemistry of Bogie and Bacall—and their snappy, innuendo-laden banter—be enough to win over The Unenthusiastic Critic?
