Yadier Molina’s 7th Inning HR propels the Birds to a 1-0 Opening Day win against Cincinnati. Shaky defense was buried by exceptional work from Adam Wainwright going 7, striking out 9. The bullpen finished up the shutout.

The Cardinals get off to a good start in 2014 with a 1-0 win over hated rival Cincinnati. Yadier Molina provides the Birds only real offense with a solo shot in the top of the 7th.  Adam Wainwright goes seven scoreless, striking out 9 earning his 1st of many victories. The bullpen pitched around some horrible defense in the 8th inning.  Carlos Martinez struck out Todd Frazier on a nasty slider to end the Reds’ threat in the 8th.  Trevor Rosenthal pitched a 1-2-3 9th, including striking out the first two to get save #1.

Opening Day in MLB was full of great games, great defense.  In some cases, pitching was at a minimum.  The league rolled out its new expanded replay with great results.  The 1st five replays all took less than 2 1/2 minutes.  Let’s hope that it goes this well all year.  We are not convinced.

The St. Louis Rams signed former Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt to an incentive laden 1-year deal with a base salary of only $550K.  It’s a low risk, high reward deal that could pay immediate dividends in 2014.  Doug and Brandt agree that this move should not impact the #2 overall pick.  Sammy Watkins should still be the guy.  Sentiment is growing nationally that St. Louis should select Khalil Mack (OLB-Buffalo) in that slot.
