The 2014 edition of the Elite 8 did not disappoint. Â With the exception of Florida vs. Dayton, the regional finals were closely contested and hotly debated. Â Shot-making was at a premium. Â Coaches made great decisions, and players executed well thought out game plans. Â The surprise of the Final Four is Connecticut beating Michigan State in MSG soundly. Â Many pundits had picked Michigan State to win the entire tournament. Â UConn was considered to be an afterthought by many. Â The easily handled favored Michigan State in front of a partisan crowd.
Kentucky was able to win their 3rd straight outstanding game en route to a 3rd Final Four in the past four seasons. Â It seems that UK is able to make a big shot whenever they need it. Â James Young, Aaron Harrison and Andrew Harrison have all played vital roles down the stretch to get BBN in the Final Four. Â Julius Randle has steadily improved and is a great finisher in traffic at the rim. Â It took a while, nearly 4 months, but the highly-touted UK freshman are realizing their potential at the right moment.
Wisconsin punches their ticket to North Texas with a great game from matchup problem Frank Kiminski. Â Kaminski had 28 points and 11 rebounds showcasing post-up moves, pick and pop, pick and roll and driving to the bucket to score in a variety of ways. Â Aaron Gordon, a freshman from Arizona, had 18 rebounds in the loss. Â Wisconsin has been on the cusp of the Final Four for what seems like a decade, and finally have gotten over the hump with the help of 5-star in-state player Sam Dekker. Â Dekker is the best all-around player on the Badgers and has bridged the gap from a bunch of fundamental scrappers to some real-NBA caliber talent.
