Billy Donovan gets an extension at Florida to raise his salary to about $3.7MM annually through the 2018-19 season.  It’s nothing to shake a stick at, but still less than John Calipari at UK, Bill Self at KU and Coach K at Duke.  It’s a well-deserved raise for Donovan, one of the best coaches in the game.  Donovan leveraged a possible NBA run in the new deal, something that he is extremely unlikely to pursue at this point in his career.  Well done.

Coaching rumors are flying as opening become available due to firings, resignations and upward movement.  Steve Masiello, Manhattan’s head man, is rumored to go the USF.  Kelvin Sampson, yes that Kelvin Sampson, among the favorites for the Houston opening, due to the retirement of James Dickey.  Shaka Smart, VCU, also in the mix at Marquette and Wake Forest.  Bruce Weber to Marquette, his “Dream Job?”

Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is predicting an “implosion” by the NFL in the next 10 years.  Cuban believes that safety issues and overexposure in the market will doom the most powerful and popular league in America.  He’s not too far off.

“Rules Are Made to be Broken” discusses the use of “Free Timeouts” that coaches use that could very easily be legislated out of the game.  Some free timeouts include #MonitorTime, an injured player or a player being disqualified from fouls, which should be 6…but that’s another “Rules” later on down the line.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams goes to the hospital and is treated for a minor laceration from a stabbing incident, allegedly involving his brother.  It was deemed accidental.  Brandt and Doug look at several ways to accidentally stabbing your brother.  There aren’t many.
