Nick Hein: Salute the Sergeant of the UFC

June 11, 2015

Nick Hein is far from your typical UFC Fighter. For starters, he’s from Germany, a country that only counts a handful of notable MMA representatives. Additionally, he’s a former federal police officer, who was on the brink of becoming an Olympian as part of the national Judo team. Again, not the most common combat sport background for a top level mixed martial artist.

After having his Olympic dreams shattered by a debilitating injury, Nick Hein reassessed his objectives, abandoned Judo and dedicated himself to MMA in 2008. With an unrelenting drive to succeed and excel, Hein struggled to find a training environment that matched the Olympic conditions he was used to as a national level Judoka.

Fast forward to 2015, with a professional record of 11-2 and 2 fights in the UFC on his resume, Nick Hein is the latest addition to the surging Tiger Muay Thai "Team Banter" based in Phuket, Thailand. Needless to say, his lack of quality training and instruction is an issue of the past.

With a great camp behind him, Nick Hein also made the difficult decision to leave the financial comfort of his career as a federal police sergeant to dedicate himself 100% to his goal of becoming a UFC champion.

Listening to the story of Nick Hein one can only feel inspired, as it would appear his enthusiasm, initiative and positive attitude seemingly manipulate the universe in his favor. Not only has he achieved acclaim though his MMA career, he’s also a successful actor, who’s never taken an acting lesson!

And here’s a little piece of UFC trivia for you: his brother in law is fellow UFC lightweight Drew Dober…the man Nick Hein faced and fought to a bloody decision in his UFC debut!

Well spoken and highly marketable, the pressure is on for Nick Hein to succeed in his third UFC fight on June 20th at UFC Berlin in his native country of Germany.

Check out today’s podcast to hear from the man himself how he plans to make the most of this great opportunity!
