UFC Fighter Royston Wee: Impact from Singapore

May 07, 2015

EP036 - Royston Wee, the first and only UFC fighter from Singapore, joins us as he prepares for his upcoming fight at UFC Fight Night 66 in Manila!
When Royston Wee was signed to the UFC to compete at their inaugural event in Singapore in January 2014, the UFC received heavy criticism: Royston had only competed professionally in MMA twice. His wins, two quick submissions, were over opponents with a combined record of 0-3. He hadn’t proven himself sufficiently. He was signed simply because the fans needed a local hero to cheer for.
Royston Wee proved everyone wrong.
Victorious in his two UFC contests, Royston has shown that he can compete and win in the UFC. And if he can win yet again on May 16th at UFC Fight Night 66 in Manila, he will have a 3 fight winning streak in the industry’s leading promotion. And that is no small feat.

Having dealt with injuries since his last fight, most notably a deviated septum from a broken nose, Royston has taken the time to once again go back to the drawing board and reinvent himself. In his 4 pro performances, Royston Wee has shown he can grapple, submit and go the full distance if necessary. But as a striking and muay thai trainer at Impact MMA, one of the leading training facilities in Singapore, the time is now for him to come full circle and showcase his full potential on the feet.
Perhaps the most notorious representative of Singapore’s burgeoning MMA scene over the last 4 years, Royston Wee understands and embraces the expectations that have been placed on his shoulders. To this effect he has surrounded himself with a power team designed to unlock his full potential.

A humble, talented and cerebral martial artist, Royston Wee knows that as long as he keeps winning, he will silence his detractors. And he will enter the Octagon on May 16th knowing that failure is not an option.
